The aim of this article is to promote brands that are less harmful for the environment.
If you must buy something, check out these brands:
Patagonia
Thought:
- They use natural, sustainable fibers (bamboo, hemp, natural wool, organic cotton, recycled polyester, rayon)
- “From first to final stitch, we make each piece of our collection in the same country so it’s never shipping from place to place. When it is time to transport our clothing, we do it slowly. And with great consideration for the environment.”
The reformation
- They grade all their materials from A to E -> Our goal is to make 75% of our products with A & B fibers.
- They tell you what the material is like for every piece of clothes (e.g. Eco Cinch Lite is a lighter weight stretch knit fabric with a soft handfeel made with 90% TENCEL ® lyocell, 10% spandex. TENCEL™ Lyocell comes from Eucalyptus trees, which take only half an acre to produce one ton of fiber. It’s closed loop production means 99% of the non-toxic solvent is reused.)
- And also the exact impact in some cases (e.g. 9.0 lbs. of carbon dioxide savings, 1.3 gal. of water savings, 11.0 lbs. of waste savings)
